Introducing The Family Barrel from Greenock Estate Wines. It’s a new wine for us, but the idea is old. As old in fact, as the oldest vineyards in the Barossa.
The Family Barrel concept comes from the long-established tradition of the English aristocracy who would lay down a ‘pipe’ of Port upon the birth of a child.
A ‘pipe’ is the name of the barrel used by Port shippers and holds around 530 litres or almost 60 dozen bottles. The Port would be shipped in the pipe, bottled and stored in the cellars until it was ready to drink. The Port would then be served at family celebrations.
In honor of this wonderful, though nowadays perhaps slightly impractical tradition, Greenock Estate Wines has vinified The Family Barrel Barossa Valley Shiraz.
The Family Barrel is a wine of impeccable lineage.
From the outstanding 2016 vintage, this wine will cellar easily for another five years and provide exciting, celebratory drinking for you, your friends and family.
A wine that you will be proud to unveil at your most noteworthy celebrations. This truly is a wine for pouring at family birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, weddings and “company family” events.
But, you might not have room in the cellar for the whole pipe’s worth of sixty dozen bottles!
So, Greenock Estate is proud to offer a buy-the-barrel opportunity.
As Greenock Estate’s CEO Frederick Liu explains, “you can buy one or more Barrique (24 dozen or more) of wine now and take delivery when it has matured.”
This allows you to stock up on a fine wine without having to cellar it yourself.
Get together with your family and friends to buy the barrel.
Buyers of a barrel will receive a Family Barrel branded barrel-head, personally signed by the winemaker, as a unique memory of your purchase.
Of course, if not a Barrique, do find space for at least a case of this fine Barossa gem.
